Description

The :thread article-type denotes an editorial synthesis composed of content excerpted from a group of current papers (typically at least five), and tied together by a minimal supporting narrative. The purpose of a thread is to display editorial content in a new way, which facilitates discovery and provides a snapshot of a specific scientific theme across multiple papers. It is not intended to present a new analysis, the evolution of a concept over time, or to editorialize the articles. Therefore, the narrative itself should not contain figures or data tables, although it may contain an illustration if it helps the primary purpose of synthesis. Typically, the proportion of narrative should not exceed 20% of the thread. The article excerpts are verbatim quotes and display items. They can be sourced from NPG journals and from other publishers as long as the appropriate rights have been obtained and the provenance is fully referenced. The narrative is written by an external author or an editor and its primary function is to help readers navigate across this horizontal slice of content.
