Description

The :retraction article-type denotes a notification of invalid results, which is necessary when either the main point of the paper or most of the paper is either based on artefact or found to be a result of scientific misconduct. All authors must be notified and either sign the retraction or provide a short statement explaining why they will not, which is also published. In some cases authors may refuse to retract. If, for example, an institutional investigation has found the authors guilty of fraud or fabrication and determined that the integrity of the paper is completely undermined, and the editors cannot obtain an author retraction, then editors (or 'the journal') may retract the paper themselves.
